Waterville Golf Links: iPECS Case Study

Waterville House and Golf Links

World renowned golf destination

Waterville Golf

About Waterville House and Golf Links

Waterville House and Golf Links is a renowned golf destination in southwest Ireland, featuring an 18-hole links course and a 13-bedroom manor house. The business employs up to 75 staff during peak summer months and welcomes around 35,000 visitors each year from over 50 countries.

Operating in a highly competitive tourism market, Waterville relies heavily on direct customer communication, with bookings handled personally rather than online. This makes a reliable and responsive phone system essential to
day-to-day operations.

The Challenge

The existing landline-based system was unreliable, with frequent faults caused by infrastructure issues such as damaged cables.

Limited connectivity across multiple locations, including the golf course, manor house and external facilities, created operational inefficiencies.

High costs associated with ISDN lines and international calls added financial pressure, especially given the global customer base.

Our Solution

GoldStar implemented an iPECS UCP100 on-premises system, migrating Waterville from ISDN to IP-based telephony. The solution connected multiple locations, including the golf course and Waterville House, using system-to-system networking.

This enabled seamless communication across the entire operation, including previously disconnected areas such as the greenkeeper’s hut. Existing analog devices were also integrated into the new system, maximising the value of existing infrastructure. This move to IP reduced the reliance on legacy lines while improving flexibility and performance.

The Results

The new system provides consistent reliability, ensuring the business can respond to customer inquiries
without interruption. Improved connectivity across all locations enables efficient communication, including internal call transfers and direct dialling between sites. Reduced costs and increased efficiency have been achieved through the transition to IP, particularly for international communications.

Waterville now benefits from a modern, resilient communication system that supports its reputation as a world-class golf destination. The reliability and efficiency of the iPECS platform ensure they can continue to deliver a high level of personal service to their customers.

With strong support from GoldStar and a system designed for performance, Waterville is now well-equipped to support continued growth in international tourism.
